We went into the show with Bee only needing 1 point to finish her GCH. She finished in style by going Best of Breed and Best Owner Handler in Breed over 4 other Border Terrier Champions and a total of 11 Border Terriers for a 5 point major towards her Grand Championship.
I am so very proud to announce that Bee (CH HnrCH-B Aardehond Princess Of The Hive) is now an AKC Grand Champion. We attended the Marion OH cluster over the weekend of July 28, 29, 30, 31, 2017. I ring stewarded on Friday and Saturday so Bee's first day showing was on Sunday, July 30, under Judge Mr. John Wade.

It's been a momentous first half of the year as Bee was bred for her first litter shortly after we attended the Novi MI shows in January. She ended up having 6 healthy puppies at the end of March ... four girls and two boys. Bee was a fabulous first-time mom. All of the puppies, except one who stayed with me, went to their awesome new homes in June.
Two of the puppies, besides my own, will be shown in the conformation ring and I know there are plans for agility, obedience, and earthdog too. It sounds like all of the puppies have had a wonderful start in their new homes and I am loving the updates and photos that are being shared with me. *** The dots on the puppies backs in the photo are my identification marks so I can keep track of weight gains and so on. Bee and I attended the 4-day Novi, MI cluster mid-January 2017 to work on Grand Championship points. This was our first show since attending the 4-day cluster in Columbus last November (2016) where Bee shined, receiving either Select Bitch or Best of Opposite Sex three of the four days and earning 14 points and three major wins. Bee had come into the November shows with 5 points already earned at shows after she received her AKC Championship so we started 2017 needing 6 single points.
At the Novi cluster, we ended up receiving Select Bitch only once for a 5 point major win. Adding that to the 19 points she had already accumulated, Bee left Michigan needing just 1 point to finish her AKC Grand Championship title. I am hopeful that we will be able to earn that final single point this year. Bee and I attended the four day Mid-Ohio Cluster, held in Columbus on November 17, 18, 19, and 20, 2016. Our local Border Terrier club hosted BTCA Supported Entries all four days (I was Trophy Chair!) and we had a great entry of Border Terriers from Ohio and Indiana and as far away as Missouri and Virginia.
I am very happy to report that Bee ended up going Select Bitch on Thursday, November 17 for a 4 point GCH major; Best of Opposite Sex on Friday, November 18 for a 5 point GCH major; and Select Bitch on Sunday, November 20 for a 5 point GCH major. We came into this weekend with Bee having 5 Grand Champion points and defeating Champions of record at two different shows. She came home on Sunday with 19 total points (towards the required 25) and having finished her three major wins and defeating Champions of record at three different shows requirement. With her major wins and defeating Champions of record requirements now out of the way, all Bee needs to do is earn 6 more GCH points and she will have earned the title of Grand Champion. The weekend of October 15 and 16 was Bee's first earthdog test, held at the Columbus All-Breed Training Center in Columbus. We had attended a practice a couple of weeks before the test and I was pretty excited about Bee's potential success as her practice was awesome.
On Saturday, October 15, both Bee and Halo were entered in Intro to Quarry (IQ) and then Bee was also entered in the Junior Earthdog test. Bee did outstanding in her IQ run, she took something like 3 seconds to reach the quarry (traveling 10 feet in the tunnel) and worked with a pro for the required 30 seconds earning a qualifying run. Halo was entered in IQ for fun on Saturday. She is a smart girl and figured out a long time ago that she can't get to the quarry so she pretty much doesn't try anymore. The judge in the afternoon did work with her a bit and she eventually started doing some good work but it wasn't enough for a qualifying run. Halo has her Junior Earthdog title and two qualifying 'legs' towards Senior Earthdog but I don't think she will ever get that third and final titling leg for an SE title. In Bee's Junior Earthdog runs, it ended up being three non-qualifying runs between Saturday and Sunday. Getting in the tunnels is absolutely no problem for her; she takes off like a shot - going straight into the tunnels and to the quarry, traveling 10 feet from the release point to the tunnel entrance and then 30 feet inside the tunnel and typically getting to the quarry in 10 seconds or less. What we need to work on is for her to stay and continue working until I come to retrieve her from the tunnel. I will say that she did increase her time staying at the quarry each time she ran, so I think she will get it figured out with some additional training. We head to Dayton in November for their earthdog test so I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone does. Hildy had to take a pass at the CATC test because she had just been spayed, however she is now fully recovered from the surgery and will be able to be entered in Dayton. Hildy earned her JE title in June at the BTCA National Specialty so she will be working in the Senior Earthdog tunnels for the first time at the upcoming test. Since Bee has finished her AKC Championship, we have definitely slowed down as far as conformation show attendance goes. I decided to enter her in the Lancaster, OH shows because they are so close to home and it's an easy drive back and forth which means we can sleep in our own beds at night. It is actually a somewhat fun show to attend as there is always a horse show on Saturday so you can exit the building where the dog show is held and watch the horse show events that are taking place simultaneously, just down the slope and in the field immediately adjacent.
On Saturday, September 17, Bee was awarded Best of Breed and she was awarded Select Bitch on Sunday, September 18; earning her a couple more points towards her Grand Championship title. Lancaster OH Saturday Show Results Bee and I attended the International All Breed Canine Association (IABCA)'s show in Wilmington, OH over the weekend of August 27 and 28, 2016. Bee did really well, earning five V-1 scores (highest given) over the course of two days, and placing either Group 1 or Group 2 in both the Terrier Group and Terrier Bred By Exhibitor Group. On Saturday, she also received a Bred By Exhibitor Reserve Best In Show!
When all was said and done, Bee came home with a new IABCA title of "Honors Champion In Bronze" to add to her registered name so she is now known as: CH HnrCH-B Aardehond Princess Of The Hive! Bee and I attended the Lorain County Kennel Club show on August 13 and 14, 2016. This was Bee's first time in the ring as a Special (finished Champion) and she did really well, especially considering the high temperatures and humidity that we experienced all weekend long at the outdoor show (and the periodic rainstorms that charged through the area).
On Saturday, she was awarded Select and on Sunday, she ended up going Best in Breed, earning 3 points towards her Grand Championship. Bee and I participated in the Dan Emmett Kennel Club and Marion Kennel Club's 4-day conformation show cluster in Marion, Ohio this past weekend. I am very pleased and proud to announce that Bee finished her AKC Championship on Sunday, July 30!
We have a couple of conformation shows in August that we have already entered so will be attending but then I want to turn our focus to the 'fun' events like earthdog, rally obedience, and agility. Bee is now CH IntCH Aardehond Princess Of The Hive. AKC has just released a video by Dr. Jerry Klein, AKC's Chief Veterinary Officer, who outlines the dangers of leaving dogs out and unprotected from the heat. Please keep your dogs safe this summer! |
Tracy Van NielMy dogs and I participate in agility, earthdog, rally obedience, and conformation events. Additionally, both Reggie and Halo passed the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test and Halo has been certified as a therapy dog. But most of all, my dogs are my housemates, companions, and bed warmers. Archives
