<![CDATA[ Aardehond Border Terriers - News, Events, Tidbits]]>Fri, 03 Apr 2026 18:22:14 -0400Weebly<![CDATA[New Puppies!]]>Tue, 04 Jun 2024 14:33:02 GMThttps://www.aardehondborderterriers.com/aardehond-news-and-events/new-puppiesWell it seems like not much has happened since Zelda had her first litter last May.  Unfortunately, it was due to some health issues that I was having which ultimately led to two surgeries last Fall.  I am now recovered from those and just have follow up appointments to get through for the next couple of years but otherwise we are all doing fine. In the meantime, I decided to breed Zelda for her last litter and am happy to report she delivered a litter of two girls and two boys on May 21.  Ironically enough, it was 1 year and 1 week to the day from when Keeper's litter arrived.  Sire of Zelda's litter is the same as her first litter, GCH CH Giles Hill Avalon Pilot (Alvin).

As of yesterday, all of the puppies have their eyes open and I am seeing a lot more mobility.  I can't wait to see how these guys grow!

]]><![CDATA[Welcome Puppies!]]>Sat, 03 Jun 2023 18:01:50 GMThttps://www.aardehondborderterriers.com/aardehond-news-and-events/welcome-puppiesAardehond Party Dress (Zelda) welcomed three male puppies in the early hours of May 16, 2023.  Sire of the litter is GCH CH Giles Hill Avalon Pilot (Alvin).  Alvin lives in Vermont and to say the breeding was exciting is an understatement as it occurred during the last Nor'Easter of the winter that went through New England mid-March.

The puppies eyes are open now and all are quickly learning to walk at the present time.  Now the fun begins!

Saucy came into the Novi, MI weekend with one major win and 6 points towards her Championship.  She earned a 5-point major win by going Winners Bitch/Best of Winners on Saturday, January 18 and a second 5-point major win by going Winners Bitch on Sunday, January 19.

CH Aardehond My Own Best Friend TKN (Saucy), finished her Championship with a total of three major wins and 16 points!
]]><![CDATA[2019 Breed Standings (as of Dec 31)]]>Fri, 17 Jan 2020 13:20:16 GMThttps://www.aardehondborderterriers.com/aardehond-news-and-events/2019-breed-standings-as-of-dec-31​Canine Chronicle has published their year end breed standings and Arie remains in the Top 20 for Border Terriers for 2019.  Arie finished the year as #17 in All-Breed Points (includes dogs defeated by Group Placements), #17 in Breed Points (total number of Border Terriers defeated), and #16 in Grand Championship (total number of GCH points earned for the year).

Pretty awesome results considering that he took a break from conformation the last four months of the year!
]]><![CDATA[2019 Breed Standings (as of Nov 30)]]>Wed, 18 Dec 2019 14:07:08 GMThttps://www.aardehondborderterriers.com/aardehond-news-and-events/2019-breed-standings-as-of-nov-30It has been a while since we have gone to a conformation show, but out of curiosity, I looked at Canine Chronicle's yearly statistic page today to see if Arie was still listed.  I was pleasantly surprised to see that Arie is still in the Top 20 standings for "All Breed Standings" (#17), "Breed Standings" (#15), and "AKC Grand Championship" (#15).

To earn points for All Breed and Breed Standings, a dog has to go Best of Breed to earn points (number of points based on number of dogs defeated).  All Breed standings also include the number of dogs defeated for any Group placements.

For AKC Grand Championship, it is based on points earned by going either Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex, or Select Dog (number of points based on number of dogs defeated).]]><![CDATA[Grand Championship BRONZE!]]>Fri, 02 Aug 2019 21:05:28 GMThttps://www.aardehondborderterriers.com/aardehond-news-and-events/grand-championship-bronzeI am very pleased to announce that Arie earned his Grand Championship Bronze title at the end of June 2019.  Arie is my first Bronze level Grand Champion and I'm very proud of him.

He is going to be taking a bit of a break from the show ring starting this month.  I am hoping that we will be able to participate in the Gem City November earthdog test and maybe even get better at going directly in the tunnel.  Need to do that before earning a Qualifying ribbon will be possible, so fingers crossed!

The Central Ohio Kennel Club held its Spring show over the weekend of April 20 and 21.  I was the Health Clinic Chair for the weekend and had the opportunity to see a lot of dogs and their owners over the course of two days, including several rare breed dogs, who came to have health checks and participate in the FSS Open Show that COKC hosted on both Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday's events consisted of the health clinic, a puppy match, several breed specialties and an FSS Open Show.  Sunday's events included the all-breed show, health clinic, 4 to 6 month puppy competition, breed specialties and a second FSS Open Show.

Arie and I competed in the all-breed show on Sunday and ended up having a grand day.  Arie won Best of Breed and we ended up placing with a Group 4 in the Owner Handler Terrier Group and a Group 3 in the Terrier Group.  Awesome results for Arie!

I was also honored and surprised to be presented with the Central Ohio Kennel Club's
"AKC Outstanding Sportsmanship Award" for 2019 on Sunday, April 21.  The Outstanding Sportsmanship Award is offered through AKC for clubs to present at their discretion with only one award given (per club) each year.

With Arie's Best of Breed win, he now has a total of 97 points towards his Grand Championship Bronze title.  Only 3 more single points to go!

]]><![CDATA[Arie's Awesome Week in North Carolina!]]>Tue, 26 Mar 2019 12:21:36 GMThttps://www.aardehondborderterriers.com/aardehond-news-and-events/aries-awesome-week-in-north-carolinaArie and Kathy Caton-Musto traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina for the 5-day Tarheel Cluster, held from Wednesday, March 20 through Sunday, March 24, 2019.  This is a big show with a lot of the top dogs in the country in attendance.

With a nice group of Border Terriers in attendance, Arie's results for the 5 days of shows were awesome.  He went Best of Breed on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday for three 5 point Grand Championship major wins and Best of Opposite Sex on Thursday and Friday for one 4 point and one 3 point Grand Championship major wins.  Arie ended the Cluster with a total of 22 new Grand Championship points which now brings his total to 85.  He only needs 15 more GCH points to earn his Grand Championship Bronze title!

The rankings, of course, fluctuate each month, depending on placements and number of shows each dog attends.  But Arie's #5 ranking puts a smile on my face and brightens up the dreary Ohio winter days for sure :-) !
