The day after fireworks displays is typically the largest intake day of lost dogs at local shelters. While you enjoy the parades and fireworks displays this holiday weekend, the best place for your pets to be is safe at home. AKC Reunite has published a one page flyer with easy to remember tips for keeping your pets safe over the Independence Day holiday.

 Hildy (CH Aardehond His Girl Friday) and I traveled to Dayton, OH the weekend of June 11 and 12 to participate in the Gem City Dog Obedience Club's summer earthdog test. I had been hoping to run Bee (IntCH Aardehond Princess Of The Hive) as well, but she came into season so was ineligible to participate at this time. I'm very pleased to say that Hildy earned her first qualifying 'leg' towards her Junior Earthdog title on Saturday, June 11 with a picture perfect run. Straight in the tunnel, straight to the quarry, and working by continually bite the bars and digging for the required time limit. She ran two more times that weekend but a combination of the heat (90 degree plus with high humidity) and frustration meant neither of the additional runs qualified. On Monday, June 13, we traveled to Columbus All-Breed Training Club where the Border Terrier Club of America was holding its 2016 National Specialty earthdog test. Hildy had a perfect run ("text book" as the judge said after I retrieved her from the tunnel) and earned her second qualifying run and Junior Earthdog title! Such an exciting way to finish her title by earning it at the BTCA National Specialty. Caby is now officially known as GCH Aardehond Life Is A Cabernet Ol Chum BN RN RATN CGCA TDI. GCH = Grand Champion (conformation) BN = Beginner Novice Obedience RN = Beginner Novice Rally Obedience RATN = Barn Hunt Novice CGCA = AKC Community Canine (Advanced Canine Good Citizen) TDI = Therapy Dog International  Welcome!

Tracy Van NielMy dogs and I participate in agility, earthdog, rally obedience, and conformation events. Additionally, both Reggie and Halo passed the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test and Halo has been certified as a therapy dog. But most of all, my dogs are my housemates, companions, and bed warmers.
